Northwest ISD opens student wellness center for counseling services

Northwest ISD has opened a new Student Wellness Center that will provide short-term counseling for students in grades 3-12.

The center is staffed by district counselors and offers up to six free counseling sessions per student. Sessions are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 5 and 8 p.m. at Northwest High School, located at 2301 Texan Drive.

District officials said the center is intended to give students access to guidance, solution-focused strategies, and healthy coping skills.

Students must be referred by their school counselor to participate. Sessions are 50 minutes long and scheduled at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., or 7 p.m. A parent is required to attend the first session. For subsequent sessions, students who drive may attend on their own, while parents of students needing transportation must remain on campus.

The program is free of charge, but a $25 fee may be applied for missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice.

For more information, families may contact Dr. Jamie Farber, NISD’s director of guidance and counseling, at jfarber@nisdtx.org or 817-215-0013.
