Northwest ISD unveils colors for new middle school

Northwest ISD has announced school colors for its next campus, Barksdale Middle School. Principal Tricia Lutkenhaus told families the school will feature “gold and white as primary colors, with dark gray as a secondary color.”

Lutkenhaus said, “In September, students from Daniel Elementary and Lance Thompson Elementary will have the special opportunity to vote on Barksdale Middle School’s mascot. This is an exciting way for them to be part of shaping the school’s identity and traditions from the very beginning.”

Located right outside of the Pecan Square community in Northlake, Barksdale will be Northwest ISD’s eighth middle school, serving families in the eastern portion of the district. Scheduled to open in August 2026, the school is funded through the voter-approved 2023 bond referendum.

The district says a rezoning process to determine the attendance boundaries for the school is scheduled for this winter, but the school is designed to relieve Pike and Medlin middle schools.
