Northwest HS graduate earns spot on Kansas City Chiefs’ 53-man roster

Cooper McDonald, a 2020 graduate of Northwest High School, has secured a place on the Kansas City Chiefs’ 53-man roster, the Northwest Independent School District confirmed via social media.

McDonald entered the league in 2025 as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Chiefs following a rookie tryout. He initially drew praise from the team’s coaching staff, with linebacker coach Steve Spagnuolo calling him “a really good find.”

A 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker, McDonald played collegiately at three different programs: Washington (2020–2021), San Diego State (2022–2023), and TCU (2024).

This marks a significant accomplishment for McDonald and his roots in the Northwest ISD community, which has been cheering him on throughout the journey.
