Construction is moving forward on Floyd Barksdale Middle School, the newest middle school campus in Northwest ISD. The school shared photos earlier this month showing the project’s latest progress, and excitement is building as the structure takes shape and moves closer to welcoming students.
Located right outside of the Pecan Square community in Northlake, Barksdale will be Northwest ISD’s eighth middle school, serving families in the eastern portion of the district. Scheduled to open in August 2026, the school is funded through the voter-approved 2023 bond referendum.
The district says the campus will feature an easy-to-navigate layout and ample teamwork spaces. According to the NISD construction website, the design draws inspiration from other recent district middle schools, like Pike and Worthington, but has its own unique design.
Leading the effort to open the school is veteran educator Tricia Lutkenhaus, who was named the inaugural principal of Barksdale Middle School in March.
