Northlake to provide $25 vouchers to residents in support of local businesses

Every household in Northlake’s city limits will soon receive a $25 voucher to spend at select local businesses, Mayor Brian Montini announced Thursday.

The program, set to launch in mid-September, is aimed at supporting shops and restaurants along Highway 114 that have seen a decline in traffic during ongoing road construction.

“It is a small way to support our businesses by hopefully driving business their way. And then supporting our residents by returning some sales tax that you have paid within the town of Northlake,” the mayor said.

The initiative is funded through sales tax revenue collected by the Northlake Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Community Development Corporation (CDC). By state law, those funds cannot be used for services such as roads or police, but they may be dedicated to programs that promote economic activity.

Each voucher will come with a list of participating businesses. Restrictions include purchases of alcohol, tobacco, vape products, or gasoline, and the vouchers will carry no cash value.

The mayor said he hopes the effort will give families a chance to enjoy a meal out or try a business they haven’t visited before.

Looking ahead, Northlake officials hope to expand the program to benefit businesses along Highway 407 as well.

The mayor also thanked the town’s CDC and EDC for “this thoughtful program” designed to boost both local commerce and community engagement.
