While there aren’t many big, formal events happening in the Argyle, Roanoke, Northlake, and Justin area this weekend, there’s still plenty to enjoy close to home. From discovering unique local businesses and trying new restaurants to catching live music, enjoying kid-friendly activities, and taking a short drive for a big regional fair, there are lots of ways to make the most of your weekend. Here are five ideas to get you started.
1. Cool down and unwind with a drink at Believe Meadery
Believe Meadery in Argyle may be one of the most unique and least known local businesses in our community. This Argyle meadery specializes in refreshing flavors of the fermented honey drink. Their taproom is open on Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. Enjoy some samples before ordering a glass, grab a seat, and unwind after a long week.

2. Check out the new-ish restaurant that locals are raving about
If you haven’t been to Little Joe’s Farmstead in Argyle yet, this is the weekend to change that! The restaurant is located on 377 just down the road from CVS. They just opened last October, and recently added an ice cream stand. The reviews from neighbors across the area have been overwhelmingly positive. Plus, they announced last week that they are now serving pie! This would make a great way to treat the kids (and yourself) after the first week of school.

3. Enjoy live music at one of three local businesses on Saturday
There are lots of live music options for you this weekend! First, the Denton-based alt-rock band Novain is playing at Three Wide Brewing. The acoustic duo known as Haworth is performing at Hilltop Truck Park, and Mule Barn in Justin continues their Free Summer Music Series this weekend with southern rock singer Canaan Bryce.
4. Take the kids to read to a friendly golden retriever at the Roanoke Public Library
If your child loves books and dogs, the Roanoke Public Library has the perfect Saturday morning plan. On Saturday, August 16, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, young readers can meet Finch, a gentle golden retriever mix with a big heart. Whether you sign up for a reading slot or just happen to be at the library, Finch will be there to lend a listening ear. This event is open to all ages, so even the youngest book lovers can get in on the fun.
5. Take a short drive to Denton to explore the North Texas Fair and Rodeo
This is the opening weekend of the North Texas Fair and Rodeo! The event last 10 nights and features country music, rodeos, livestock shows, fun zones for the kids, and fair/carnival attractions. Weekend admission is $25 for adults, $5 for kids 7-12, and children 6 and under are free. Prices don’t include tickets for rides, and parking costs $15.
