City of Roanoke hiring for key community roles

The City of Roanoke is actively recruiting candidates for three essential positions aimed at strengthening public safety and enhancing community life.

In a recent announcement, the city shared that it is now hiring for a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, Firefighter, and Recreation Aide (Part-Time, Year-Round). City officials emphasized that these roles are more than just jobs — they are opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Roanoke residents every day.

Details of Available Positions:

  • 911 Dispatcher: Must be able to work any schedule in a 24/7 scheduling environment. Compensation is $57,000 – $76,000 per year based upon years of experience.
  • Firefighter: Compensation ranges from $24 to $35 per hour based on certifications. Schedule is 48 hours on, 96 hours off.
  • Recreation Aide: Responsible for the operations of the front desk, childcare area, gymnasium, and/or weight room areas in the Roanoke Recreation Center
