The Town of Argyle is one step closer to building a new Town Center and police headquarters after a unanimous vote by the Town Council Monday night.
In a series of three approvals, the Council authorized:
- $750,000 to fund remaining pre-construction expenses,
- an agreement with Dunaway for engineering services, and
- an agreement with GFF for architectural services.
The new facility will be built on a six-acre site previously acquired by the town, located on the south side of FM 407, just east of U.S. 377.
“This is the first step in creating a space for everyone in Argyle to come together,” said Mayor Ron Schmidt. “We still have a ways to go, but Council took a big stride with tonight’s votes and gave the community a win.”
Argyle officials say the approved agreements will kick off a master planning process, in which GFF and Dunaway will collaborate with Town Council and other stakeholders to determine infrastructure needs, space requirements, and design priorities. The plan will also reportedly lay out a schedule and provide the cost estimates needed to guide future decisions.
For Argyle Police Chief Emmit Jackson, the vote represents more than just early planning.
“I think that this shows a very positive step on the part of the mayor and council, showing their commitment to making this a reality,” Chief Jackson said. “I think there will be some very happy police officers to see the full progress.”
