Three Northwest ISD alums selected in 2025 MLB Draft

Three former Northwest ISD student-athletes are one step closer to living their big-league dreams after hearing their names called in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft this week.

  • Riley Nelson, a 2022 graduate of Byron Nelson High School and standout at Vanderbilt University, was drafted in the 5th round by the Cleveland Guardians.
  • Carter Rasmussen, a 2022 graduate of Northwest High School who played for Wofford College, was picked in the 14th round by the Boston Red Sox.
  • Braydon Risley, a 2023 graduate of V.R. Eaton High School and recent player at Grayson College, was chosen in the 19th round by the San Francisco Giants.

Northwest ISD congratulated the athletes, their families, coaches, and former teammates, calling the moment a dream come true. Their hard work and dedication—from NISD diamonds to collegiate programs—has now earned them a chance to compete at the highest level of the sport.
