Northlake police chief wins State of Texas Valor Award

Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford has been awarded the prestigious Valor Award by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for his heroic actions during a life-threatening incident in December 2024.

According to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement’s announcement, Chief Crawford responded to a call involving a woman experiencing a severe mental health crisis. The woman reportedly got out of her car with two guns, and expressed she wished to die by suicide. While negotiators worked to de-escalate the situation, Chief Crawford quietly maneuvered behind the woman and was able to safely disarm her and bring her to the ground without injury. She was then taken into protective custody and transported to a hospital for care.

The commission says Chief Crawford’s decisive and courageous actions likely saved the woman’s life and protected the officers on scene. The Valor Award recognizes exceptional bravery and selflessness in the line of duty.

The Town of Northlake expressed deep pride in Chief Crawford and the Northlake Police Department, stating that his leadership continues to strengthen the community’s safety and trust.
